Thank You To Everyone Who has
Supported us Over the 40 Years of Folkfest!
Folkfest began in September of 1980 when the Century Saskatoon Board of Directors met with a number of ethno-cultural groups and the Saskatoon Folk Art Council to discuss the possibility of undertaking a “Festival of Pavilions” within our city. One of the Council’s objectives was to promote mutual understanding through the cultural activities of all ethnic groups. The ideas were met with such enthusiasm that the “Focus on People Committee” was established to coordinate Folkfest as Saskatoon’s major project to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Saskatchewan.
Incorporated in 1981, Folkfest has continued to grow and support the diverse community cultural organizations that comprise the Folkfest membership. We celebrate strength in our diversity, showcasing cultural arts, cuisine, traditions and history with a goal of enlightening, offering new experiences and nurturing a sense of harmony with all patrons. Through planning, learning and growing together – the participating organizations invest valuable resources back into the community and embrace the diverse cultural fabric that shapes Saskatoon.
