Our Mission
Folkfest is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, connecting, and exploring Saskatoon’s diverse and multicultural communities. Over the past 46 years, we have successfully built and strengthened diversity to celebrate the beauty of a vibrant world, where every distinct culture enriches the communities it inhabits.

Our Vision
Folkfest’s vision is that it creates a community-forward festvial that values all cultures and heritage that make up Canada. Reflecting unity that is fostered through connections, friendship, understanding, and belonging.

Folkfest's Youth Ambassador Program
Folkfest’s Youth Ambassador Program seeks to empower the next generation of cultural leaders. This summer program brings together young people from diverse backgrounds to gain hands-on experience with festival operations, community engagement, and cultural promotion.
The Youth Ambassadors help run events, interact with festival visitors, and support the pavilions. This program helps them develop leadership, teamwork, communication skills, and life-long friendships. The Ambassadors become advocates for diversity, and cross-cultural connection which carries Folkfest’s mission into the future. Our Youth Ambassador program fosters leadership, a sense of community, and pride while empowering our youth.

Our Story
Saskatoon Folkfest began in 1980, bringing together various cultural organizations to celeberate diversity in the community. The goal was, and still is, to showcase Saskatoon’s viberate multiculturalism through arts, culture, dance, music, and food.
The name Folkfest evolved as a play on words with “Folk” refering to people, and “fest” being a shortened version of festival. By combining the two words, Folkfest means a people’s festival; a celebration of, and for people and community. This name is one that Folkfest continues to proudly embody to this day.
Folkfest invites Saskatonians to share their time, their traditions and their way of life, building cross-cultural connections and bringing the community together, whether it be Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, or Canada.
