Welcome to the land of the mighty rivers; Padma, Meghna, Brahmaputra, Dhaleshwari, Buriganga, Karatoya, Karanphuli, Teesta and many more. The meandering pathways of these rivers and their basins have defined a land and livelihood of its people for generations. These rivers are flooded by the annual monsoon bringing misery to millions of its people but also bringing the nourishment for the land, a blessing cloaked in destruction. These rivers have profound influences on the daily life of Bangladeshi people, their music and folklore.
Come to the pavilion of Bangla speaking people. Bangladesh, the most densely populated country in the world, defying all odds and natural disasters, nurtures 160 million people in a land that is one-fifth the size of the Province of Saskatchewan. Bangladesh has a rich heritage and vibrant culture.
Visit our colourful pavilion to discover the intricate handicrafts and artwork of Bangladeshi people and enjoy our music, songs and dances. Celebrate the harvesting and pitha festival with us. Taste our mouthwatering food –
polao, chorma (a special preparation of chicken), singara, chatpoti, pitha and mishti!
