Saskatoon Folkfest is now accepting nominations for the Dr. Jawahar (Jay) Kalra Award for Diversity and Harmony. This award recognizes distinguished volunteers and institutions that have shown exceptional commitment to fostering diversity and harmony in our communities. Nominees should be individuals or entities whose efforts in promoting cultural understanding serve as an inspiration to others.
Nominations can only be submitted formally by a sponsor who has direct knowledge of the nominee’s contributions. Self-nominations or nominations from immediate family members of the candidates are not accepted. Each nomination must be submitted in either English or French and include a completed Nomination and Consent Form, two letters of support (with only one from the sponsor), and a current biography or profile of the nominee. Additional supporting documents are optional.
The award winner will receive a certificate and the opportunity to designate a $1,000 gift to a registered Canadian not-for-profit organization or charity in their name. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 4:00 PM. All submissions must be emailed to folkfestdirector@gmail.com by this date to be considered for the 2024 award cycle.
Eligibility criteria include a strong involvement with a Folkfest pavilion or other cultural organization, active membership or a demonstrated commitment to culture and heritage, and significant contributions to diversity and harmony.
